One Missed Call

This is a short narrative film I made for Film Production I class. The requirements of the assignment were, no sync sound (couldn't use audio that was recorded along with video), no dialog, and must be about a character that goes through some sort of conflict.

I have always pondered the role of cell phones in peoples lives and how many of us use them nearly non-stop throughout the day. This short film plays with the idea that cell phones disconnect us rather than connect us to the world around us.

I invite any and all comments, good and bad. I am continuously trying to improve my film making, so any suggestions, likes, dislikes, or questions are welcomed (and requested).

Contemplation

Well, I am seriously slacking on posting stuff on this site. For those of you that are close to me, you know it is due to my snowboarding accident this past February, of which I am still recovering. I hope to put up a photo montage and a bit of info about what happened, at some point.

This video post is a one minute visual poem assignment for my editing class that I'm taking at the University of Utah this semester (Fall '07). All the students in the class were asked to go out and film an object or environment, and a person. Then we all had to create a one minute visual story/poem from the clips we all took. The first and third clips of this short are mine, as well as the very last one. The rest are clips I picked out of the mass we created.

As a result of my winter accident, I have decided to go back to school and study Film at the graduate level at the U of U. I'm currently living with Camille, my eldest sister, and things are going quite well. It feels great to be studying again, and I feel right at home in my three classes. I plan to post my various class assignments as they are completed, so hopefully there will be some new videos to look at over the coming months.

Sarah's Ascent

Sarah's Ascent

Large file, may take 5 - 10 mins to download. I can't type easily right now, so this will be short. This is some footage of my friend Sarah and me climbing in Snow Canyon.

My first post of 2007!

A Descent of Kolob Creek

A Descent of Kolob CreekClick here to download video.

About two months ago, my friends Dave & Shelley Buckingham & I descended Kolob Creek, an awesome two day canyon found on the west side of Zion National Park. During certain months of the year, there is water flowing through this canyon and makes for an amazing experience. However, it also makes for a more risky or potentially dangerous experience. Back in 1994 two Boy Scout leaders died in this canyon, check out this article).

When my friends and I did this recent descent, we estimated Kolob Creek to be flowing around 3 CFS (cubic feet/second). When we got to the initial rappel into the canyon, the water was roaring through the canyon and was quite intimidating. After a few moments of deliberation, weighing reward vs. consequence, and listening to our intuition, we decided to descend the canyon. In the end this ended up being one of the best canyoneering events of our lives and I can now say that I have a favorite canyon (at least for now).

This vlog is a photo montage set to a wonderful Postal Service song. It is a rather large file, so it will take a bit longer to upload, but it is also of a larger format so the images will be bigger. Also, I have altered most of my vlogs so they now pop up in a separate window (this one doesn't), hopefully this working. Thanks to Michael and Ryanne of freevlog.org for all your help.

Black Widow Boulders

Black Widow BouldersClick here to view the video.

Well, finally it has happened, I have uploaded a new video. I tried to post this back in early June, but as I mentioned in my previous post, I've had many problems making this happen.

This vlog is a short video premiere of a bouldering area I am developing outside of Zion National Park, near my home in Rockville, Utah. I have named the area the Black Widow Boulders due to the many black widow spiders found in the area. In this video you will see my friends Phil Wilkes, Alana, and myself climbing the first established routes. I hope to post more videos of this area in time, as there are many more boulders and climbs that have since been discovered.

Enjoy!

¿Que Hora Son Mi Corazón?

Keyhole CanyonClick here to view video.

For those of you that don't know, I'm down in Sprigdale, UT right now, working on a video project for the Zion Adventure Company. I'm here primarily for work, but have been able to get out into a few canyons. This video is a photo montage of a descent through the Keyhole canyon that my friends Koko & Dave, and I did together.

Early in my arrival in Springdale, I was presented with the opportunity to guide with the Zion Adventure Company this season. I tossed and turned (¿Que Hora Son Mi Corazón?) over whether or not to accept the job or return to Salt Lake City, and in the end decided now was not the time for me to be in Springdale. I can only hope this opportunity will show itself again. So, soon I shall be back in the Salt Lake valley, looking to do much snowboarding in the very snowy mountains.

After viewing this video, if there is anybody who thinks they would like to go through Keyhole canyon, leave me a comment or email me or check out the Zion Adventure Company. Also, check out Tom's Utah Canyoneering Guide.

Grizzly Gulch 1/06

Grizzly Gulch 1/06Click here to view video.

It has been longer than I expected, but here is the latest Adamatrix Video. I'm aiming for a bi-monthly posting frequency (what?), so there will be a new video available at least every two weeks. Also, the average file size of these vlogs is settling around 5 mega bytes, so they'll take a few minutes to upload.

Grizzly Gulch is a simple, safe backcountry skiing area located at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is situated between the ski resorts of Alta and Solitude and can be easily accessed from either resort. In this video, my friend Eric Bensi and I head up from the Alta side to meet with our buddy John Mletschnig (a ski patroller from Solitude). Bensi forgot his snowboard boots, so he ended up snow shoeing in his street shoes. As a result, the outing was a mellow one, but it was a good day. Enjoy some shots of the wind playing with the snow and some simple backcountry playtime.

This is the second part of my Wasatch Winter 04 video. It is a few minutes long and as a result, it will take about five minutes to load up. In this vlog, we get a personalized tour of the Bannana Couloir with my good friend Eric Bensi. This chute is located up in Mill B North Fork of Big Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake City, UT, USA.

Again, this vlog is best viewed using the Firefox web browser, if you haven't got it yet, do yourself a favor and get it now!

If you get a chance, leave me a comment, tell me what you like, don't like, or are having problems with concerning this vlog. You can always email me, too. Thanks for watching!
